The Polk County Sheriff's Office is the main contact for county detention and booking material. Its public office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The communications center accepts non-urgent calls around the clock, but that line is not a records-search service.

- For a county booking record, arrest report, or releasable identification photograph, use the Sheriff's official records-request page. No fixed fee or response time is published there.
- For current county custody, use the Sheriff's detention and inmate-search page. For release or transfer notices, use the VINELink Check.
- For a warrant-related docket event, judgment, dismissal, certified file, or expunction follow-up, contact the Polk County Courthouse at One Courthouse Square, Columbus, NC 28722, 828-894-4900, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- For a person in state prison, on probation, or on parole, use the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction search. It is not the Polk County jail roster.
- For federal prison custody, use the Bureau of Prisons locator. Immigration custody uses the separate ICE detainee locator.
- For a city-created report, contact Tryon Police at 828-859-9195, Columbus Police at 828-894-5464, or Saluda Police at 828-749-2691. The Sheriff's records route handles county detention material.
